PIEES (Platform for Eastern European Studies), in line with its objectives, organizes workshops, talks, seminars, symposiums, and congresses at regular intervals, and contributes to the academic world by publishing the scientific outputs obtained from these activities.
The first congress was held in Kamianets-Podilskyi; the second in Kyiv (CIEES 2018) in cooperation with Taras Shevchenko University; and the third in Skopje (CIEES 2019) in cooperation with the International Balkan University. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the congress titled “The Role of the Church in Eastern European History” was held online. The fifth congress was organized in a hybrid format in cooperation with İzmir Democracy University, while the sixth congress, CIEES 2023, was held in Sinop on 4–6 May 2023 in cooperation with Sinop University. The seventh congress, CIEES 2025, was organized in Elazığ in memory of Prof. Dr. Mustafa Öztürk.
In each PIEES congress, the research topics are shaped within the framework of predetermined main themes, based on a historical perspective and limited to Eastern Europe. In this context, CIEES 2026 will be organized in cooperation with the University of Pécs, in the city of Pécs, Hungary. The main theme of the congress has been determined as “History, Culture and Society in Eastern Europe”
The congress will be held in person, and submitted papers are expected to align with the main theme. Proposals that fall outside the main theme will not be considered.
